Following is one in a series of articles based on the words of New Thought leaders — current or past (or in this case, fictional!)
New Thought Inspiration from Yoda
Yoda is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas, first appearing in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back. In the original films, he trains Luke Skywalker to fight against the Galactic Empire. In the prequel films, he serves as the Grand Master of the Jedi Order and as a high-ranking general of Clone Troopers in the Clone Wars. Following his death in Return of the Jedi at the age of 900, Yoda was the oldest living character in the Star Wars franchise in canon.
{NOTE: I find it interesting to compare New Thought teachings with Star Wars symbolism. For example, The Force is Spirit, Universal Intelligence, The One, God (or whatever you call it). Yoda is the spiritual teacher, minister, mentor, or practitioner. The Jedi are those who become “enlightened”, intuitive and sensitive to the power of Spirit in and around them. And of course, Luke Skywalker is all of us!}
“No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try.”
Yoda is one of my favorite ‘gurus’. Of course, he is a fictional character, but despite that, he shares some insightful wisdom.
“There is no try.” Have you ever really thought about what ‘trying’ really means? Either you are going to do something or you are not. Trying to do something just sounds like a lack of commitment to me. Or just a way to make yourself think you are doing something when maybe you aren’t!
If your heart is not in something then don’t do it, but to say you are going to try just gives you an excuse to not do or to fail.
How about if we make a commitment to decide to do — move forward in our lives with our plans and dreams — and forget about trying! We are better than someone who is just ‘trying’ to do something.
What are you going to do today rather than trying to do?!!
I’d like to share another word of wisdom from Yoda:
