The Spirit of Christmas

November/December is the season of gratitude and thanksgiving — for all we have and all we experienced during the last year.  I am noticing a sense of joy and hope as we share the Spirit of Christmas in our lives, families, and communities.

Unity’s Christmas booklet, The Spirit of Christmas, shares lovely stories and inspiration to follow The Spirit of Christmasalong during Advent and into the first days of the New Year. Although it is too late to order and receive your booklet before the beginning of Advent (sorry about that!), you can still follow along with the instant downloadable copy available on their website: The Spirit of Christmas.

Enjoy the sentiments shared by Jim Blake (CEO of Unity World Headquarters) in one of the opening stories:  The Christmas Tapestry

2020 has been a tough year for many. As such, the Christmas season this year may be challenging for some of us as a result of the global pandemic  and its toll on our families, friends, and communities.

For others, this year’s holiday season may be welcome, a chance to rekindle annual feelings of warmth, generosity, and love, allowing us to step away from the stress, fear, and uncertainty that occupied so much of the year.

Regardless of where we find ourselves on this year’s spectrum, my humble invitation is to consider that we each have an opportunity to connect with at least one of the many threads in the tapestry of the Christmas spirit, something often talked about but difficult to
define.

Let’s lay aside our differences, our disappointments, and all things that draw us away from the beauty of the Spirit of Christmas.  Although 2020 has been one of the worst years of my life, I still look forward to the holiday season (and the coming year) with hope and expectation.  Who knows what wonder the season shall bring.

In Jim Blake’s concluding words:

Whatever your experience has been in 2020, may we each find a strand in the woven fabric of the Christmas spirit and may it anchor us throughout this season, gently lifting our hearts and spirits while wrapping us in hope for the future.

Happy holidays, friends. May the peace and spirit of the season be upon you, and may you be richly blessed. Namaste
