Can we find peace amidst chaos during challenging times?
We, the people of the United States, recently witnessed some of the scariest and challenging times in recent history. Of course, I am writing in the aftermath of the protest, turned violent, at the Capitol Building in Washington DC over the 2020 election results. Just seeing the pictures of angry and proud trespassers was enough to invoke some strong emotion. I am sure that I am not alone!
Despite what is going on around us, we can still find peace. Within us, we have the capacity to be calm and at peace, because we know that Spirit is in charge. Although we cannot control what others do, we can control what we feel and ultimately act upon.
I am encouraged by some of the encouraging words shared by many of our spiritual leaders during this time. Many groups are calling for a time of prayer and meditation for the healing of our country. I am joining in with these folks to stand strong in showing love and kindness to one another.
In the words of Rev. David Robinson, Centers for Spiritual Living, Olympia, Washington:
Just because the calendar has turned, does not mean that we are complete with our journey. Although the light of the next phase of this journey is gradually becoming visible, it does not mean that everything is automatically, and in one day, over. Today’s events (the riots at the Capitol building) are a continuation of the chaotic transition period of 2020 and an expression of a chaos that has been growing for a long time. Yet, there is Light, there is an Infinite Presence greater than all this.
Just like many previous historic occurrences, this may seem large today, but will be only another blip in history several decades from now. That does not mean we just ignore it and hope it will go away. We are the ones who have the responsibility to bring Light to the darkness today. At the same time, we must keep our own eyes on the Light that supports and sustains us, we must keep a larger perspective, and we must maintain a consciousness of the peaceful, harmonious world that we know is possible.
What a beautiful message to share during a chaotic time!
Let’s put events into perspective, and remember that this occurrence is really just a blip in history.
Our role now is to bring the Light and Love of Spirit into the darkness we see around us.
