Have We Drifted Away?

So many changes are unfolding in the world and in our country.  What I am seeing makes me ask if we have drifted away from one another and from what is truly important for the world to survive.  Thinking about this makes me want to look more closely at how I am showing up in the world.

When I start feeling like this, I go back to those who inspire me.  This week, I am sharing some excerpts from this wonderfully inspiring article:  We are Better Together by Rev. Dr. Michelle Wadleigh

… just how far we’ve drifted from the personal touch… from simple kindness… from the expectation that a real human being might actually pick up (their phone).

Without one another—without kindness, without connection—who are we?

Many of us have been deeply moved witnessing these monks walking for peace. Their quiet devotion, their steady steps, their willingness to place their bodies on the line for peace has captured our collective attention. They aren’t shouting. They aren’t demanding. They are simply being the prayer.

And look at the impact they are having.

They’ve slowed us down.
They’ve softened us.
They’ve reminded us of who we are beneath the noise.

Clearly, something within us has been longing for a symbol of hope. I am grateful for how they have stirred our hearts and called us back to our shared humanity.

In a conversation with my colleagues last night, we reflected on how inspiration shows up now. Perhaps the days of one singular voice directing the collective consciousness have shifted. Instead of one towering figure like Martin Luther King Jr. or Mahatma Gandhi, perhaps we are now being invited into something more distributed—many voices, many hearts, many quiet acts of courage and care. …

Let’s slow down together.
Let’s lean into each other.

Let’s listen to each other.
Let’s connect—and not just on Zoom.

Rev. Michelle speaks to me.  If she speaks to you as well, you can stay connected with her through her weekly Substack writings.

And let’s remember not to drift away from the things that sustain an inspired life.  This is the time to stop, look at one another, and remember we are all in this together.  We are all one with the One: Individual human beings, but connected to the divine energy of the Universe.  It is only through that connection that we can stop drifting away and cling once more to the goodness within each of us.

Will you join me in sharing that Oneness? It is that place where we will find the peace of God!
