One of my favorite and simplest prayers to use — especially when I just can’t find the words — is the Hawaiian Ho’o Pono Pono Prayer.
Hoʻoponopono, according to Wikipedia, is a Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. The Hawaiian word translates into English simply as correction, with the synonyms manage or supervise, and the antonym careless. Traditional Hoʻoponopono is practiced by Indigenous Hawaiian healers, often within the extended family by a family member.
Along with the traditional Hawaiian practices listed in above, Ho’oponopono prayer helps removes the mental obstacles that block your path to having our prayers answered. The prayer, as outlined in the image, is a simple set of four statements that embody most of the practices of forgiveness and gratitude. Couple these with visualization and you have a powerful prayer.
The four steps of the prayer are explained below:
- Repentance — “I’m sorry”
Once you take responsibility for the pain and suffering your thoughts and judgments may cause, it is easier to truly feel sorrow. - Ask for forgiveness — “Please forgive me”
Be willing to feel the desire to be forgiven, even if your ego is resistant. - Gratitude — “Thank you”
Expressing gratitude immediately actives the Law of Attraction — opening the door to receive more blessings. - Love — “I love you”
Love is healing power in your life to has the power to unite, rebuild, restore and reveal perfection in the world around you.
The practice of this Hawaiian prayer made the mainstream spiritual groups through the work of Mornah Simeona. After her death in 1992, her assistant, Dr. Hew Len and Joe Vitale, co-authored a book called Zero Limits..
Joe Vitale’s book shares detailed examples and ways to work the prayer to affect your life in the most effective way.
If you have not heard the story behind the prayer (and Joe Vitale’s book), I recommend you read Dr. Hew Len’s miraculous story of healing mental patients published on Present Love: Mastering the Law of Attraction website!

I have seen these four phrases used for Ho’Oponopono in every order possible. The way it is listed here is my favorite order, but feel free to say it in a way that feels most authentic and natural for you.
