I must admit, witnessing what is going on in our country is a constant source of disorder. Even as I sit at my computer writing this article, I wonder how I am rising above these waves of disturbance.
At times like this, I seek reassurance from those who seem stronger than I—those who seem calm in the midst of emotional storms. Rev. Dr. Michelle Wadleigh’s writings keep me grounded when I feel lost in the confusion around me. Here are a few of her pearls of wisdom from her recent post.
Ride the Wave from Rev. Dr. Michelle Wadleigh
How does one ride the wave of emotions while simultaneously staying grounded?
By knowing who you are, of course. Who you are needs to be a calm, emotionally grounded being to begin with.
Rev. Michelle goes on to explain that we are all human and need to ride the wave of human emotion. But how do we do this without becoming overrun by the wave? How do we remain grounded while the world around us seems to be in a tailspin?
She outlines a few suggestions:
… how do we raise our vibration? Here are a few things – this is a simplified answer, but it is a real answer all the same.
- Begin to forgive yourself and all those who have harmed or offended you.
- Recognize that all of life is working for you, on your behalf.
- Cultivate the faith of Spirit through your spiritual practices.
- Practice gratitude as if your life depended upon it – because it does.
- STOP telling your stories of woe – unless to a professional.
- Stop judging, complaining, and comparing.
- Breathe – consciously – with great appreciation for your breath.
- Share compliments, and be a cheerleader for people you care about and for yourself.
When we raise our vibration, we can ride the waves of our humanity like a pro surfer while staying grounded in our spiritual essence.
This is why I continue to attend Sunday Services every week. Why I take various classes through the Centers for Spiritual Living. And why I meet every week with a prayer partner. These practices keep me grounded and help me in rising above the waves of insanity!
Rev. Michelle goes on to say …
THE GOAL IS TO LEARN HOW TO RIDE THE WAVES BUT NEVER TO BECOME NUMB. NUMB IS A DANGEROUS PLACE TO BE. NUMB IS PRACTICALLY AN AGREEMENT WITH THE INSANITY.
Be strong, my friend; your strength, courage, faith, and love are needed right now.
Let’s work together in rising above the waves, holding each other’s hands, and staying grounded together.
