We all go through times where situations and circumstances seem insurmountable! I experienced a time such as this when our home burnt to the ground on Labor Day (You can read Part One here.) In this post, I continue sharing what tragedy has taught me during the last weeks.
I don’t think there is any time my faith has been tested more than during the time
our home and all our possession burnt. But one thing I learning is that I am stronger than I think I am. And maybe, more importantly, I learned first hand …
Spirit has our backs!
Honestly, I’ve had my moments. It is not easy to know everything you owned is gone. But through all this, I see and feel Spirit looking out for us. Of course, this manifests through people who have been so supportive. Deep inside, I feel all will work out because I have seen so much goodness in the last weeks.
In the process of fleeing the fire zone, we wrecked our car. Despite the radiator leaking terribly from the damage, we were able to drive out of the fire and to safety. Our insurance company supplied us with a rental car while they towed and eventually deemed our damaged car totaled! Meanwhile, friends hearing of our plight gifted us a vehicle they no longer needed — which was newer than the car we wrecked! Spirit has our backs!
After the Red Cross’ general help had run out, a local friend invited us to house sit while he and his wife were on vacation! And of course, they left the day our stay at the Red Lion was over. Spirit has our backs!
Knowing we had to start from scratch just to replace the necessities we needed, various local church groups collected and shared clothes, food, blankets, towels and other household items with us. A childhood friend offered us a nice set of dishes, a microwave and other kitchen utensils to us. Also, my ex-husband passed away suddenly a few months ago, and my kids are looking for items to give us from his estate. Spirit has our backs!
Even though we could never replace all that we lost, money and resources continue to pour in from family, friends and strangers. The news even reached cousins in the midwest that I had not seen since I was a small child. Not only did the cousins reconnect with me, but they also sent us a combined check from all four families. Spirit has our backs!
When we know Spirit has our backs, we find peace
But most of all, I can find some peace in this situation. Maybe throughout my years of learning to trust Spirit, teaching others to trust Spirit, praying to trust Spirit … I did finally learn to trust Spirit in all situations of my life.
