Grounding and Renewing

We are built to engage in constant grounding and renewing. Our bodies replace billions of cells during a short day. But what about our minds, hearts, and souls?

A few months back, I read an article in Science of Mind Magazine that outlined suggestions for grounding and renewing our minds.

Following are the suggestions Swati Singh shared about Renewing Ourselves, Spiritually.Grounding and Renewing

Question your beliefs

Along with many others, I grew up with a specific set of beliefs based on what my parents taught me, what my church taught us, and what the area I grew up in taught me. Often, this is described as race consciousness. Personally, I have questioned my beliefs many times throughout my life. First, when I moved away from my family home and again when I left the constraints of my first marriage. And, of course, many other less significant times.

Recharge by unplugging

In this age of technology, it is vital to our sanity to step away and reconnect with nature. Fortunately, I live very close to a major river. Typically, I take a walk every day to get away from my computer and enjoy nature. Watching the water flow while the squirrels and birds bounce around on the trees above me rejuvenates me physically and spiritually.

Know yourself

Turning inward during prayer and meditation is a renewing process. Sitting in silence, away from the hustle and bustle of life, allows me to be open to my thoughts. Allowing these thoughts to settle reveals things about myself that I would not see normally.

Stop the chatter and meditate

Deeper meditation, which is closely related to the process above, allows us to hear what spirit is saying to us. Once again, by pushing aside our overthinking, revelations can be revealed to us. Stopping the chatter also helps to calm any unsteady nerves, frustration, or anger, making our lives more pleasant.

Break patterns

Patterns can be helpful, but circling around to the same negative responses to situations can stifle our growth. Sometimes, it is best to change our reactions to a given situation that comes up in life. Practicing this pattern-breaking can open doors to new and wonderful experiences.

Find a source of contentment

Being joyful and happy is essential to improving our contentment with life. Without it, we can become disenchanted, which, in the long term, can cause physical ailments in our bodies. Being creative, however that looks to you, is helpful in creating contentment. Find something that brings satisfaction and joy—something you can do for the inner you.

Next time I feel ‘off’ or ‘out of sorts’ with myself or my life, I will go over this list again to go back to grounding and renewing.
