Love is the Answer

I see a pattern emerging in the events unfolding in our world.  We have forgotten to believe and practice that love is the answer.

How do I know that love is the answer?  First, because Jesus said it over two thousand years ago when he proclaimed the two greatest commandments:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

~ Matthew 22:36-40, NIV

Because we are human, we often forget that this applies to those who think differently than we do;  are of a different race orLove is the Answer religion than we are;  or have a different sexual orientation than we do.  If we truly proclaim ourselves to be followers of Jesus’ teachings, we must embrace his words.

Love is also practiced as compassion. We don’t look at the world just through our personal lens, but also through the lenses of others. To truly practice love and compassion, we must not turn our backs on the injustices perpetrated on others.  As Rev. Soni says in her quote below, love and compassion have the power to heal not only ourselves but also others.
When we choose compassion, we confront injustice, support those in need, and strive for a more equitable society. … Awakening to our spiritual magnificence means recognizing the divine in ourselves and others. It calls us to act with love, empathy, and kindness. By choosing compassion, we can bridge divides, heal wounds, and create a world where everyone can thrive.
~When Words Fall Short by Soni Cantrell-Smith
Love defines who we are inside.  None of us is exempt from the harshness of the world, but love will expose the harshness we may have been harboring inside of us.
If we are really honest about what is before us we will see that calls for compassion and reconciliation will expose hard and ugly truths about who we have been and who we are.
~Part 2: The Ghosts in the Room by Rev. David Alexander
I am inspired by the words of John Lennon’s song, Imagine:
Imagine all the peopleSharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamerBut I’m not the only oneI hope someday you’ll join usAnd the world will live as one
And of course, the Beatles song,  All You Need Is Love, sums it all up!

Love is the answer to so many of the world’s problems.  If we can let go of our personal prejudices and extend a helping hand to those around us … think how the world would change.
