Are you, like me, wondering how sacred activism aligns with New Thought teachings? In a world that seems to be in turmoil, how does our teaching align with the practice of activism?
Science of Mind Magazine shared an article by Rev. Dr. Soni Cantrell-Smith (CSL’s Spiritual Leader) that addresses this issue.
Here is what Rev. Soni shares with us on the subject:
Sacred activism is the intersection where consciousness becomes action, where prayer bcome movement and where spiritual principle becomes practice. It sacred activity of bringing our Centers for Spiritual Living Global Vision into reality.
NOTE: CSL’s VISION is a world that works for everyone.
I love her words as she describes the need for action! Not to take away from prayer, but I don’t ever recall Jesus asking the 5,000 hungry people to pray for food. And, honestly, neither should we, unless we work to put feet to our prayers.
Through the difficult circumstances in my life, I have found that taking action — any action that works for you — is better than doing nothing. What kind of action, you might ask? Maybe you are not meant to go on strike, join a peace demonstration, or engage in political actions. There are actions we can take.
The number one action step I try to take is to embody and share love and acceptance. When I come from love, it is easier to see people who struggle just as I do, whether I agree with them or not. And when I can see life through the eyes of compassion, I begin to ask myself: What can I do to help?
I love the quote by Mister Rogers: “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” I believe that most people have good hearts and are looking to do their best. They want to help where needed. So I do my best to treat them with love and respect. Eventually, I see and am led to take the necessary action.
Rev. Soni goes to share …
We are not asked to fix the world by ourselves. We are asked to bring our piece of the light. Whether than means speaking up, creating art, building community, volunteering, protesting or simply being deeply present with someone else, it matters. Love multiplies when expressed.
I challenge you! Next time you feel uneasy about what is going on in your life, your community, or your country, take it to prayer. Then, be open to what Spirit prompts you to do. You may be surprised at the power you will feel when you take action. That is what I would call Sacred Activism.
