Have you been telling a story about yourself that may not be true? I discovered I have and decided to tell a new story!
I attended a wonderful Sunday service last week. The title of the talk was “Boldly Living a New Story.” Of course, the talk was focusing on the stories we tell ourselves.
After the service, I was talking with two other women on the Zoom after-service discussion. We all found that we were telling a story that was not who we really are in Spirit. Over the years, we had all done the same thing: Telling ourselves that we were not good enough, not smart enough, or not educated enough.
Of course, we laughed about it and decided that we all were/are good enough and smart enough.
We all realized that we were telling ourselves stories to avoid dealing with the truth behind the stories about ourselves.
One gal, in particular, was telling herself a story about not needing people as an excuse to not engage with others, thus not fully enjoying her life. By the time we finished our time together, she had decided she would tell herself a new story and decided to take a walk with a friend.
How often do we tell ourselves a story that is not true?
There are ways to combat these stories by changing your thoughts and tell a new story.
I am a fire survivor, but that is not the story I am telling myself. My story begins AFTER the fire and how I dealt with it. Through prayer and spiritual practices over the years, I learned to see things differently. You can too.
I talked about this in my interview on the Cosmic Prayer Show. If you didn’t get a chance to hear the Laura Topper interview with me, you can listen to it here:
