So much has changed during my lifetime regarding the health of the Planet and its people. We can engage in many positive actions, but what is our responsibility or ‘what is ours to do for the planet’?
I grew up during the Zero Population Growth Movement, a time of environmental awareness. People were buying more fuel-efficient cars, camping in trees to prevent them from being cut down, and recycling was a new concept. I was never a tree-hugger, as they called them at the time, but I did my best to do my part to save the environment.
So much has changed since then.
Many people, especially those in power, seem conscious of doing everything to grow wealth—even at the expense of the environment and many of its inhabitants!
I watch in horror as our current US administration is tearing apart our rules concerning the preservation of the earth. And in doing so, they are also pulling the rug out from under so many programs that protect our marginalized population along with the environment. When did we, as a country, decide these things were unnecessary? When did the Christian Movement become one of hate and destruction rather than love and protection?
Sometimes, I feel helpless—until I remember that I can do something, somewhere, to change my thinking and response!
TAKE ACTION!!
Anything positive we can do for this situation is better than sitting and feeling helpless!
My prayer partner and I frequently pray about what is mine to do in a given situation. Suddenly, last week, I stopped waiting for my husband, someone more outgoing or more brilliant than me, to make a peaceful stand about what does not resonate with my thoughts, feelings, or beliefs. After all these months of praying for personal wisdom, it was like the curtains parted, and I saw that I could make a difference by just taking a few small steps!
Once I decided to take the action that ‘was mind to do,’ the veil of confusion, frustration, and angst lifted. I could see power replacing all those negative feelings. I was determined and focused—something I had not felt in months or more.
Of course, I must leave my ego and expectations behind while taking action. I don’t know if or how this will all turn out. And, of course, the how is Spirit’s job. I need to do the best I can and let the Spirit move through me and my actions.
What action can you take today to move forward? What is ours to do for the Planet?
