I have friends who are dealing with death and dying. I know two couples in particular whose husbands are both dealing with cancer. I see the strength they exhibit and the support from their wives. Unfortunately, both are living hundreds of miles from me, so most of the news I receive about them comes electronically. But thank goodness, I am able to offer support where I can through texts and emails.
One of the men, in particular, has developed another life-threatening condition along with his cancer. I am sad to see that his end is probably imminent! But he is not letting that stop him from living life now! Nor is my other friend, who has spent his life working on cars. Both their wives have a good support system to help them deal with the situation.
This really puts life in perspective for me. As I shared in my previous article, The Power of Prayer in My Life, I have been dealing with a health issue in my own life. But mine is not life-threatening at all. I have my moments of frustration and feeling sorry for myself. When I listen to these men and their wives, I see the strength and faith they can lean on.
What a blessed ‘testimonial’ of their lives!
My husband and I do our best to take care of our health. We eat healthy, non-processed food; we exercise; we sleep! All these things surely help, but I am finding that our attitudes about what we are experiencing can outweigh our health choices.
One friend tells me that all is well with him because either he will get better or he will die. Either option will be the best for him. I listen to this and wonder, when my time comes, if I will have such a wonderful attitude?
In the meantime, I will remember how blessed I am to be as healthy as I am. I will also remember that my issues are not as serious or life-threatening as either of my two male friends. And although I am dealing with the death and dying of my friends, I am still here, healthy and vibrant. My time will come to an end in the future, but I will remember to use what time I have to make my world and those around me a better place.
As I was writing this article, I came across this prayer:
My body is enfolded in Divine Life, and it is now expressing its perfection and wholeness.
Every organ and function of my being is now inspired with life and health and is now manifesting the perfection of spirit.
I let my body accept this truth of my being now, and I give thanks that I am healed.
