Healing through the Practice of Forgiveness

Learning how to forgive is a lesson not often taught in schools or churches.  Nor is it widely known that healing is the result of the practice of forgiveness.

In the words of Rev. John Beerman

Forgiveness is the most powerful spiritual tool I know.  Forgiving frees us to align with divine mind by opening any blocked spiritual andHealing through the Practice of Forgiveness emotional channels.  Simply said, forgiveness gives us a chance to think clearly without the roadblocks of resentment, anger, and cearless judgment of ourselves and others.”

I once read that not forgiving is like drinking poison and expecting your enemy to die.  Sounds humorous but rings true.

Forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves.  It is not something we ask for … especially not from the person who may have wronged us.  We forgive to heal ourselves.

So how do we start a practice of forgiveness?

First, by forgiving ourselves.  We all make mistakes, miss the mark in our relationships with others.  In her book, The Path to Wealth, May McCarthy suggests we pray for forgiveness every day — preferably before we go to sleep at night.

Here is the suggested prayer listed in her book:

If there is anyone from my past or present that I need to forgive, whether I remember them of not, I now do so.  I bless them, I love them, I forgive them, and I release them into your care, knowing trhat you will work with them in whatever way is best.  And if there is anyone from my past or present who needs to forgive me, including myself, they now do so, and we are all free to experience a higher and greater good in our lives.

Another way to practice forgiveness is by journaling.  Unity booklet, The Freedom of Forgiveness, Suggests creating a Forgiveness Log that looks a bit like this:

When you explore your feelings of unforgiveness, you can write down your thoughts below each of the columns.  Most of the time, we harbor unforgiving thoughts; we suppress them.  Creating a Forgiveness Log is a powerful way to identify and heal memories along with the feelings and judgments around them.

I understand that sometimes it is hard to forgive.  As another way to practice forgiveness, you can book a Manifestation Treatment Session with me.  I can help you work through your emotions and feeling and help you release any unforgiveness you may be clinging to unnecessarily.
