It is helpful to stay focused and centered to live a happy and fulfilling life. However, there can be so many distractions from all the conflicting information shared on the Internet and with friends and family. Sometimes, it is hard to stay centered.
If you have not already figured it out, I tend to be a very sensitive person. I am often empathic, meaning I take on the vibes around me. When times are good and happy, I function wonderfully. But when there is negativity and tension, I need to protect myself.
Thankfully, I have a prayer partner whom I regularly ask for prayers for peace, ease, and grace. Without that support (and sharing with all of my readers), I might struggle more than I do.
If you are sensitive or empathic like me, I have some tips for you. Even if you are not as sensitive, these ideas may be helpful.
- I engage in daily spiritual practice, which involves reading an inspirational passage first thing in the morning. Most of my readings come from Science of Mind Magazine, Unity Magazine, and Unity’s Daily Word.
- I always remember to pray an affirmation mind treatment every morning to build up my confidence and embrace my power in Spirit.
- I subscribe to inspirational email messages and have joined dozens of New Thought Facebook groups, which I read first thing in the morning.
- I avoid watching negative news stories, violent movies, or TV shows. I stay informed by reading a minimal summary of the news for the day. Honestly, I seldom read beyond the headlines.
- I do my best to avoid negative conversations. When I run into neighbors and friends who decide to start a negative discussion (about anything), I try to find something positive that we can both focus on instead.
- Our home (in a mobile home park) lies against one of the most significant rivers in my area. I walk along the levy every day for exercise and meditative time to soothe my mind and soul.
- I actively choose not to argue with people whenever possible. Even if I am right, arguing or debating only causes hard feelings, which does not help them or me.
- I do my best to eat healthy, organic (when possible) foods. Avoiding overly processed junk food is better for my body and renews my strength and stamina. I also take a daily vitamin and mineral regimen to support my mind and body further.
- I also go to bed reasonably early to make sure I get plenty of restful sleep each night.
- Before I fall asleep, I thank the Universe for all the good I experienced that day.
Not all of my regime will work for everyone, but it does help me keep focused and centered. What practices do you have to stay centered?
