Some days start out with a challenge I was not expecting. When this happens, I pause and be grateful for what is working right. The last few days have been one of those times.
I use several software programs when working with my clients. It is great to use these software programs to make our lives easier … until they don’t! This has been one of those weeks where several programs are not working properly. My response when I have issues like this is to step away from my computer, take a walk, and sit outside, just enjoying the weather. During those times, I really need to give thanks when I really want to scream!!
This reminds me of a similar situation with my oldest son. A few months back, he was recognized for 25 years of service with the major worldwide company he works for. Quite an accomplishment, I think. The sad part is that he doesn’t like his job. He would be eligible for retirement soon, but he sustained a serious back injury some time ago and can only work part-time. Now, retirement is farther into the future than he would like. Thankfully, he had enough time on the job that they gave him the front desk duties, where his lifting was minimal. I suspect that he would have a very difficult time finding a new job with his disability, especially since he is nearly 50.
He periodically complains about his job, so I suggested that he find something to be grateful for, such as having a job, rather than complaining.
Oh my! I need to apply that ‘Motherly Advice” to myself sometimes!
Anyway, he texted me back to say he was thankful he gets to leave that job! I suggested he find something he could be grateful for NOW. His response: Yeah, I’m grateful to be leaving work later tonight! He did admit that he was ‘messing’ with me, but I certainly understood his angst!
It is so much easier to see this in someone else than in ourselves!
So I will take my own advice: Pause and be grateful.
- I am grateful to be working for the people I do. They are loving and kind and appreciate what I do for them.
- I am grateful to have the ability and access to so many software programs that typically make my life and my clients’ lives easier.
- I am grateful to be self-employed and to continue working with a sound mind into my seventies.
- I am grateful to be able to share my journey with you.
Whenever you get frustrated with some portion of life, remember to pause and be grateful! And now, I am going to take a walk!
