The Power of the Mind

Sometimes, I forget the power of the mind until something falls into place. Maybe I spend too much time in doubt, but I am often surprised by how perfectly things work out.

For the past several months, I’ve been working on transferring my health care to a local provider rather than traveling 40+ miles away (as I had been doing for years). But I find it hard to find a good doctor who listens and acts on what I share with them.

Finally, I found one who responded in a caring manner, really listening to and responding to my issues. Of course, I got really excited and shared this with my weekly prayer partner. Her response was, ‘Of course you found what you needed, silly girl; we have been praying about this for a while.’ (NOTE: These are not her exact words, but it held the essence of how it hit my brain when she said it.)

While writing this, I am remembering a project I was working on with a small group of people in my community. It was a big, involved project that required a lot of time, effort, and input from people. Somewhere near the middle of the project, one of the ‘helpers’ texted that she predicted we would fail! Her words cut me to the core. I had only seen the momentum we were creating, knowing we would push through and make a difference. No matter what I told this helper, I could not sway her negativity. She didn’t sway me, but she slowly began to sabotage the project. I think she has convinced herself so deeply that her mind began to move her into making her words manifest themselves.

Blessing or Cursing

A few days ago, I read a passage in the Daily Guides of the Science of Mind that really woke me up to the power of the mind in our thinking:

When you bless something, you lift it up and bring it into the light, which helps healing begin.  The act of blessing raises its energy and takes away fear or doubt.  If you bless your fears, other people or situations, you shine light on them and help them rise.

I don’t stop and think about the power of the mind until I am hit squarely in the face with circumstances on either side of the spectrum.  We can decide whether to curse the situation, as my friend did, or bless it, as my prayer partner and I did. It all depends on how we want to see and experience life.
