A few days ago, I read an article in Spirituality & Health (Unity publication) that discussed using prayer as a vending machine:
Several years ago, a client told me he’d given up on prayer. “When I pray for things,’ he explained, ‘my prayers are never answered.’ I told him I could teach him a form of prayer that works every time, but we’d need to let go of thinking of prayer as a vending machine!

I laughed out loud when I heard the comparison! Prayers such as these, which are pleas or lists of our requests, are largely ineffective. Treating Spirit as an outside force that withholds or dispenses our prayer request like a vending machine is not effective. This is especially true when we ask or manipulate “God” into “answering” our prayer.

When we attract the attributes and things we want in life, knowing that they come from within, our prayers become more effective and attainable.

According to Kevin Anderson, the one word that religion needs now is loving-kindness (is that one or two words?). Of course, the Manifestation Formula incorporates these principles as well.
