Most people are familiar with affirmations, but are you aware of the power of afformations? Afformations (no, that is not a typo) train and guide your mind into the infinite possibilities of what you can accomplish.
Noah St. John, author and creator of “Afformations,” describes this process as asking empowering questions that unleash your creative ability to take action and express who you truly are. Here is his process as listed in his book: The Book of Afformations:
- Ask yourself what you really, really want … to uncover your true desires.

- As you begin asking yourself what you really, really want, capture your desires in writing.
- Be as specific as possible when capturing your desires and feeding your hungry soul.
- Take what you want in each area and form an empowering question that assumes that what you want is already true or has already happened.
- Take each Afformation and read them, write them, say them and listen to them.
- Repeat this process as often as necessary until you install your new, empowering belief and feed on it automatically.
One of the biggest obstacles to affirmations is dealing with the ‘monkey mind’ that says you are lying when you repeat your affirmation. For example, let’s look at the following affirmation:
“I experience abundant prosperity in my life today and every day.”
Great affirmation! But, if you are like most, you may hear your brain telling you something like: “Yeah, right! You are such a liar.”
Instead of engaging yourself in this back-and-forth inner argument, you can turn your affirmations into questions. Questions help your mind and spirit look for answers rather than focusing on what you have or do not have.
” An affirmation in the form of a question is 300 or 400 times more effective and will literally train your brain to translate the affirmations into your behavior... If, when we ask the question, we include more of what we want in our life, our brain will search to provide us with those things which we included in our question and the answer.”
~ Rex Sikes, “Why Affirmation Don’t Work” (article)
Asking questions engages the mind in a fact-finding mission to change your current mindset rather than create a possible argument! Using the example above and changing it into an afformation, you might say:
“Why is my life a tribute to abundant prosperity today and every day?”
Pay attention to what happens in your mind when you say the afformation. You will find that your mind immediately ponders and seeks a s
piritual nugget to answer your question. What you are doing is creating a new reality for yourself.
There is power in afformations!
